A few weeks ago, GPTE student had the opportunity to listen to a webinar about the PYP curriculum. The four presenters gave an interesting workshop to deepen our knowledge about this topic.

First of all, the PYP stands for Primary Years Programme and it is suited for children with the approximate age of 3 – 12.  It is claimed to be the best of educational research, though leadership and experience derived from IB World Schools. This is because the PYP is an example educational who deal with responding to the challenges and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world.

This programme aims to nurture and develop young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. I’ve understood from the teacher that PYP offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. Additionally, there are five key components of the programme, such as attitudes, knowledge, key concepts, skills, and action.

It was interesting as we had an additional opportunity to interview and listen to a real mother who has a son in the programme. I felt like I benefited from this discussion a lot more as we were able to gain her real views and opinions on PYP. It was crucial to see the benefits that she has first-hand experienced. She has seen many positive aspects such as inquiry-based learning, international mindedness and action orientation which lead to outstanding academic results. She mentioned that it’s more than just memorizing information and vocabulary; it focuses on understanding. Her son has shared with her the large amount of support and has greatly benefited his language skills and more. The mother has even added that her son does not wish to go back to his previous way of learning and is greatly satisfied with PYP.

This webinar and interview gave made me curious about the PYP more as well as made me curious to try this approach in the near future.

That is a few of my thoughts on PYP, please leave some of your thoughts about it int he comment selection below.
